L.O.V.E. Leadership

Mayumi D. Brewster, was raised in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area and pursued higher education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&TSU) in Greensboro, NC. While there, Mayumi studied to be an architectural engineer. Despite her brief tenure at NCA&TSU, Mayumi was nominated to join the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society as well as the National Deans List. In 2005, she joined the Society for Women Engineers, the National Society for Black Engineers and was a scholarship recipient of the Waste Management Institute. Mayumi made significant strides to continue her education and achieved a Certificate in Management Foundations and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business of Administration from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in Adelphi, MD. 

 

Recently, Mayumi obtained her Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from UMUC while achieving Presidential status in The National Society of Leadership and Success Honor Society. She was also presented the National Engaged Leader Award, an honor bestowed upon those who demonstrate consistent effort to succeed.

 

As the Director of Operations for The L.O.V.E Academy, Inc., no one is more self-motivated and dedicated than Mayumi on making things come together. She secures and develops business plans, key activities and priorities while motivating teams to execute the vision and exceed goals. 

 

Professionally, Mayumi is employed with ACCSC as Senior Coordinator for Institutional Records in the Operations Department where she evaluates compliance issues, highlights concerns and provides feedback to nationally accredited, post-secondary institutions in the U.S and Puerto Rico. Mayumi resides in the Washington Metropolitan area where she enjoys spending time with her children, friends, and being of service to the community. Mayumi devotes her limited free time to family oriented activities, volunteering, tutoring and taking on interesting hobbies such as bartending, catering and boating.

Born and raised in Prince George’s County Maryland, Nickia pursed higher education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&TSU) in Greensboro, North Carolina. While there, she was a student athlete, a founding chartered member of the NCA&TSU chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Colleigate Women, a member of Women of Excellence and a student member of the National Association of Black Journalists. While maintaining her studies and institutional involvement, she developed a strong sense of community service. She was a volunteer lunch buddy and tutored at local elementary schools. Additionally, Nickia also spent countless hours as a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sister of Greater Greensboro.

In the spring of 2007, Nickia was inducted into the Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. That same year, Nickia graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism & Mass Communications with a concentration in Electronic Media.

 

Immediately after obtaining her undergraduate degree, Nickia pursued a graduate level degree and obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in 2010 from University of Maryland University College (UMUC). Nickia’s sense of community involvement never withered; in fact, her passion to serve and transcend the world gave her the vision for The L.O.V.E. Academy, Inc. As the visionary and CEO of The L.O.V.E. Academy, Inc., it is her hope to fill the void young girls have in our community, with an organization created to teach, guide and love the young women of America’s tomorrow.

 

Currently, Nickia is studying to become a Certified Fraud Examiner, while professionally working as an Investigative Research Analyst for the federal government. Outside of mentoring young ladies in the community, Nickia spends her time being a mother of a toddler, a wife, hair stylist and mentoring younger family members.

Immediately after receiving her degree, Mayumi enrolled in the graduate program and obtained her Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from UMUC while reaching Presidential status in The National Society of Leadership and Success Honor Society. Within this organization, she was presented the National Engaged Leader Award, an honor bestowed upon those who demonstrate consistent effort to succeed. Moreover, Mayumi was awarded the Better World Grant in the amount of $5,000 for The L.O.V.E. Academy, Inc., highlighting its academic achievement initiative. With unwavering determination to expand her knowledge, Mayumi is currently continuing her education with a terminal degree in Business Administration specializing in Project Management and Leadership. She is a doctoral student for the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at Walden University in Minneapolis, MN.

Professionally, Mayumi is employed with the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) as a Senior Coordinator for Institutional Records in the Operations Department where she evaluates compliance issues, highlights concerns and provides feedback to 700+ nationally accredited, post-secondary institutions in the United States, Puerto Rico and Singapore.

 

Mayumi resides in the Prince George’s County area where she enjoys spending time with her children, friends, and being of service to the community. Mayumi devotes her limited free time to family oriented activities, volunteering, tutoring and taking on interesting hobbies such as bartending, catering and boating.

Michelle L. Haynes, born and raised in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area, has over 7 years of professional event planning, programming, outreach & communications experience. She graduated Cum Laude in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism & Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations, from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&TSU). While there, she was an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Public Relations Student Society of America, and Ladies of Excellence.

Michelle Haynes, MPA

Director of Program Development

Michelle retreated back home where she began work as a Program Coordinator for a national trade association. In her time there she was promoted to Program Manager as well as earned her Master’s in Public Administration (MPA). During her graduate studies she was inducted into the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, where inductees must maintain a 3.7 cumulative GPA. Following her time in the trade association industry, she began work as a federal government consultant. She currently researches federal programs to gather trend & benefit analysis, and provide recommendations on how programs and processes can be improved.

 

Michelle brings a wide array of skills and experience to her position as Director of Program Development for The L.O.V.E. Academy, Inc. Professionally, she has been responsible for the planning and facilitating of program development for annual conferences with over 1,200 industry executives and merchants. She has coordinated large scale conferences in and out of state, as well as managed event and program budgets ranging from $2,500-$550,000.

 

Among the top of the list, her passion for youth and commitment to the community that she is from, gives her an extra drive to give back to young people. As a graduate of Suitland High School’s University High Program, she understands the issues that face urban youth, specifically in the DMV. With the L.O.V.E. Academy, Michelle is responsible for the successful programming and implementation of monthly events for young girls in the DMV. As a mentor and strong community figure for the past 4 years, she is a firm believer that to whom much is given, much is required and that is what pushes her to give all she has to feed into the lives of the youth that she comes into contact with.

 

Michelle’s proudest accomplishment is being a loving wife and mother. When she is not working, she enjoys chasing her favorite toddler around while his baby sister continues baking in the oven. She inspires to teach her children that anything is possible with faith and extremely hard work. What better way to exemplify that than to chase your own dreams full steam ahead?!
